Most acquirers buy a consultancy in order to absorb it. The name comes off the door, the team is restructured, and the relationships a founder spent decades building are handed to an integration plan. We think that model destroys the very thing that made the practice worth buying.
We work differently. A practice that joins Goldfinch Assets keeps its name, its team and its client relationships. It continues to serve its clients under its own identity, led by the people its clients already know and trust. What changes is what sits behind it: we take on the weight of ownership, provide capital for the practice to grow, and quietly handle the operational and administrative load so that ecologists can spend their time on ecology.
We buy to hold. There is no fund timeline behind us and no intention to sell on. When a founder passes their practice to us, they are choosing continuity for their team and their clients, and a steward for the reputation they have built. We treat that as the whole point of the transaction, not a footnote to it.
Every conversation starts with the founder's own timeline. Some of the people we speak with want to step back within the year; others are simply beginning to think about what comes next. Both conversations are welcome, and both stay confidential.

The practices that suit us best have a strong local or specialist reputation, a capable team, and long‑standing client relationships, and a founder who cares as much about what happens to the practice after the sale as about the sale itself.

Our background
Goldfinch Assets was founded by two operators who have spent their careers in the environmental sector. Between us we have run consultancy businesses, led international environmental programmes, and worked alongside ecologists throughout our professional lives. We understand ecological consultancy from the inside: the seasonality, the licensing, the fieldwork, and the client relationships that hold it all together. We have operated businesses like the ones we acquire, and we built Goldfinch Assets to give them a permanent home.
